Bed
Foam Memory Pillow Mattress
When I first purchased the mattress,
I bought two quality down pillows, because down was what I
had always slept on, and what I preferred. However, because
I sleep higher on the Tempur mattress than on a standard coil,
I found that the compressibility of the down pillows resulted
in horrible neck support when sleeping on my side. I then
bought two Bed Foam Memory Pillow, extra thick. Those were
great for sleeping on my side, but dreadful when on my back,
since they were so thick. I thought about using one for my back, and switching to a
another one for my side, but I found that would require my actually
waking up to switch pillows every time I changed position.
I couldn't envision going to all that trouble, so I ended
up returning it.
I stuck
with the down for a while after that, but found I was getting
increasing neck stiffness upon waking. I went back to the
bedding store to try other pillow models, not certain of what
I wanted. I found that the Bed Foam Memory Pillow combined
the best of the characteristics I was looking for. Unlike
the other mattress, the Comfort Pillow can be molded
to change shape and thickness. You can make it flat for comfort
while lying on your back, or you can fluff it up to make it
thick, which provides great neck support when on your side.
Down fluffs up wonderfully, but it compresses to a fraction
of its thickness the moment your head touches it. The
mattress keeps its thickness until you change its
shape to flatten it out again, but has enough give so that
it doesn't feel like a rock under your head. Also,
it doesn't have the "ahh" factor that a good down
pillow has. But again, the overall comfort and support make
me appreciate it more in the long
run.
One other
point to keep in mind: supposedly the Bed Foam Memory Pillow
is made to look more like a conventional pillow for those
concerned about the design of their bedroom. It looks more
conventional than a neck pillow, to be sure, but it is still
a dense lump of foam, and it does not fluff up nearly as much
as a down pillow. Thus, it doesn't do much for my duvet/pillow
design. I find I use my down pillows as decoration during
the day, storing the mattress in the closet.
On the whole, though, these are great pillows, and I highly
recommend them to anyone who has a Tempur-Pedic mattress.
They complete the Tempur "experience" quite nicely.
Since I have never tried them on a conventional mattress,
I cannot comment on their performance in that setting.
